If your posts are getting ignored, it might be because they’re all about you, not your audience.
Let’s get honest: Instagram has changed. It’s no longer a place for random personal updates, flatlays of your coffee, or endless selfies. If you’re using Instagram to grow your business, the number one rule is this: it’s not about you, it’s about them.
That means every post should be rooted in one of three things:
- Value: Teach something helpful. Give your audience a quick win.
- Connection: Share something that builds trust, makes them feel seen, or reveals who you are.
- Consistency: Show up regularly, not just when inspiration strikes.
Too many business owners create content that says, “Look at me!” instead of, “Here’s how I can help you.” The shift from “selfish” content to service-driven content is where growth starts to happen.
Today’s Instagram user wants to:
- Learn something useful
- Feel good or inspired
- Solve a problem they’re facing
So next time you plan a post, ask yourself: what’s in it for them?
If you can deliver value while still letting your personality shine, that’s the sweet spot. People buy into the person, the product, and the process. Show at least one in every post, and you’ll stop being scrolled past.
